Installation on Linux

The easiest way to install all necessary software as well as our toolbox on your computer is through our automatic installation package. Our forum may provide help in case of any installation problems. All installation routines have been tested for Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS. Installation should work in the same way on other Ubuntu distributions.

Installation instructions:

(click on the bullet points to get more detailed information)

  1. Unpack the content of the .zip archive. The automatic installation package contains a file install_fortran.sh that is designed to manage the full installation process on Ubuntu Linux. The file makes use of the program apt-get that allows to install software on your computer through the console. The configuration and installation files needed to install all software packages on your computer are located in the folder src. You can use the file uninstall_fortran.sh if you want to again remove all the Fortran software components from your system.
  2. The file install_fortran.sh is a shell file, which we use to execute certain installation routines on your computer. To run this file proceed as follows:

    • Go to the folder in which the automatic installation package files are located. Right-click on some empty space in this folder. A drop-down menu appears like in the following picture:
    • Click on the menu item Open in Terminal and a terminal window will open.
    • In the terminal window type the following command:
      ./install_fortran.sh
    • The bash script should execute.

When you run the installation file, you will be asked to confirm that you want to install all software components as well as our toolbox on your computer. You can do this by typing the letter y. The installation process requires administrator rights. You will therefore be asked to type your password. After entering your password, the installation process begins. Note that this will take a while, so lean back and enjoy.

This is it! If you saw no error messages appearing, then Fortran as well as our toolbox were successfully installed on your system.

  3. We only provide support for Ubuntu linux. However, the installation process works similarly on other Debian based linux systems. We suggest you download the automatic installation files and adapt the file install_fortran.sh to your system’s needs. Otherwise, you can follow the manual installation guidelines.
  4. In the unlikely event that you want to install all the software components as well as the toolbox from your system, you can use the file uninstall_fortran.sh. It follows the same logic as the installation shell script and can be executed in the same way. You just have to follow the instructions.
