    Dear Fabian and Hans,
I was wondering about the following: In the rootfinding program, there is no option to set bounds. How is it then possible to ensure that it only searches in areas where consumption is positive? I am encountering cases in which a_plus is such that consumption is negative, hence marginal utility is NaN, hence the root cannot be found.
    Am I missing something here?
Thanks a lot for your help and the great book.

    Dear Helena,

thanks for this excellent question. We had a similar discussion last year with Nils, see here.

Hope this helps. Tell me, if you’ve got more questions.
